“Immortal Heart” is a cinematic journey into the dark world of vampires. It's a concept that's easy to get excited about, but the twist comes from revealing a more human and vulnerable side of our vampire character.
The storyline unfolds in three parts: Alone/Hope, Abandoned, and Revenge/Anger. We first meet our main character alone in an immortal world, longing to find a love that could finally last. Unfortunately, as things often go in the underworld, that future is not in the cards. In Movement 2, our vampire falls deeper into despair, eventually coming to the conclusion that if he cannot have love, then no one can. The production concludes with him taking his revenge by turning the remaining members of the ensemble into his own “vampire army,” spreading darkness everywhere.
Music selections include an arrangement of “What Could Have Been” by Sting, along with Toccata and Fugue in D Minor (public domain).
"Immortal Heart' was written by Fred Emory Smith and John Mapes. It was originally commissioned for the fall of 2023 and was released for the 2024 season.
